University students should do a part-time job
Jenny Chong, an university student, has 8,00 yuan as pocket money given by her parents on the first day every month. Jenny’s money is abundant in early part of a month, while it becomes more and more insufficient when the end of a month comes after going shopping and watching movies in the cinema with friends. One evening Jenny told her mother on the phone that she was ran out of money and wanted to draw her pocket money of the following month in advance. However, she got nothing but being given a good scolding for using up the money in so short time. Jenny was too dispirited that she turned to her confidant Cindy to complain about her tragedy. After hours’ dicussion, Jenny was suggested by Cindy to take a part-time job to gain some extra money. Taking a part-time job might occupy most part of students’ time, but university students should do a part-time job.
University students can become more financially independent if they do a part-time job. According to a recent search on the Internet, which shows three ways to be Financially Independent in College, part-time job ranks first. Getting a part-time job has definitely got to be the most obvious choice in becoming financially independent instead of mooching off parents in college (www.ehow.com). Sarah Xu, an university student, took a part –time served as a waitress in Pizza Hut with small hour shifts in her spare time. She worked two hours a day from Monday to Friday and six hours a day on weekend. Tolly, Sarah got about 1,000 yuan for each month. She thought it really helped her become financially independent (Xu).
University students can gain new experience if they do a part-time job. According to the website www.associatedcontent.com, part-time jobs are a good way to gain experience is most often seen in the opportunity they represent for an individual to learn the subtle nuisances of a career field from the bottom up. Moreover, part-time jobs are a good way to gain experience not only in a particular position, but are also instrumental in teaching a newcomer to the working world a number of important skills that are necessary to succeed in the long-term. Ryan Lee, an english major student in shenzhen polytechnic, took part-time jobs both in Starbucks and Jusco, told me that doing part-time jobs brought him lots of experience
of communicating with others and improved his oral english (Lee). Getting a part-time job, evidently, enrichs students’ life with experience.
University students can learn to balance their study and work if they do a part-time job. Kate Su, an economics major sutdent in Shenzhen University, benifits from her part-time job, knew how to balance her study and work. She thought she had formed some good habits after getting a part-time job of being a Math tutor. First, being afraid of wasting time, Kate learned to plan her time well to make sure that there was no conflict between study and work. Moreover, Kate became efficient in class and homework. Last but not least, she became flexible when she faced unecpected status (Su). In a word, a part-time job helps students to get a balance between their study and work.
A part-time job can help students to be financially independent, bring students new experience and teach students to balance their study and work. Although it needs part of students’time, a part-time job benefit a lot. So, university students should do a part-time job.
